When will the PE test results be available?

Harry here – I just learned that the results from the October 2013 PE exam were sent to the States December 5th.  Now it’s up to your State board to decide on the cut score for passing the exam.  Usually States boards simply accept the NCEES recommended passing score.  However, there could be a delay if your state board needs to first meet & vote on the passing score.  This is typically why some State results become available before others.  Either way, you should expect to receive your results very soon.  Good luck to everyone!

Please remember to send us a note if you used A Dictionary of Civil, Water Resources & Environmental Engineering or if I had the pleasure of teaching you this fall for a PE review course.  I really want that “I passed” email, send it to info @ goldenratiopublishing.com.

PE review course … in a book

Just a follow-up to the many inquires regarding the highly anticipated review course in a book.  We are currently actively writing and hope to publish sometime in 2014.  We have decided to make the book as inclusive as possible, so it will take some more time to complete.  NCEES is constantly changing/updating the exam and hence the book will reflect those changes.  Please send us an email info@goldenratiopublishing.com if interested in receiving a notification when published.

Thank you Queens and a quick note from a former student.

Harry here – Last weekend I had the opportunity to teach a Water Resources & Environmental PE Civil review course to students in Flushing Meadows (Queens,) NY.  It was my pleasure to meet everyone and share those two days together.  Hopefully everyone will remember the great tips we shared on how to pass the PE exam and remember to send me an email when they pass the PE Civil exam – please do send me that email!

If you are in need of some studying motivation, check out this email I received yesterday from a former PE Civil student.  “Most grateful to you for your teaching in fall 2012 School of PE in Atlanta, Georgia that helped me to pass the PE exam. I took the Environmental/Water Resources depth.”  There you have it everyone, study hard and the rewards are there for the taking!

Good luck to everyone from Flushing Meadows (Queens,) NY!

How do I obtain a PE license?

Lots of time we run into people hopeful to sit for the PE exam – only to later learn they are not yet eligible.  Usually, the most common reason is not having enough working experience under the supervision of a PE.  Below is a 4-step, quick summary of what is necessary to become a professionally licensed engineer.

  1. Earn an engineering degree.  Your bachelors degree must come from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  2. Next, you need to pass the FE exam and register the results with either NCEES or the state where you are planning to take the PE exam.
  3. Work under the supervision of a licensed PE for a minimum of 4 years after you pass the FE exam.
  4. Pass the PE exam and party like it’s 1999 – just kidding about the last part!

Your PE questions answered for FREE

As some of you may already know, I (Dr. Friebel) teach an on-site PE review course on the weekends in the Spring/Fall. This helps keep me dialed into the latest exam specifications and after teaching so many years, I know the tips and strategies that it takes to pass the exam. But more importantly, I absolutely remember what it was like working and trying to study both nights and on the weekends. Another memory I have was wondering really where to start? Looking back, I am amazed at how much time and energy I wasted on getting this information. So I’d like to offer you my assistance “for free, on the house, paying it forward, whatever you want to call it!” What I am thinking is if you send your general questions to: info@goldenratiopublishing.com. I will try my best to answer them all. For example:

“When should I start studying for the exam?”

“I am taking Construction in the afternoon, what references do I need?”

WARNING – no promises I can answer them all or even know the answers! I’ll post the questions and answers on this blog so that everyone can benefit. Send me as many questions as you can think of (the more the better) and I’ll compile a list and start responding ASAP. Please hold off on sending me any problems or calculations you are having trouble with. This offer is for general questions only.

When can I register for the October 2013 PE exam with NCEES?

In short, the answer is now!

The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying® (NCEES) has just opened registration for the October 2013 PE exam.

A quick note, before you register for the exam with NCEES, you should first review your state’s registration process and register with your state to sit for the exam.

State regulations to take the exam can be very restrictive, so be sure to review them early to make sure my meet all the eligibility requirements.  Also, don’t forget to register before the deadline! Nothing is more frustrating that starting to study for the PE exam early and then finding out your cannot take the exam because your application was rejected by either your State or NCEES. Our advice, double check everything during the registration process.

If wondering what calculator your can bring to the fall 2013 exam, check out: What calculator can I bring to the PE exam?

By the way, this years fall PE exam will be held October 25th, 2013 – mark your calendars!

What is a derecho?

Today, June 13th 2013, the weather and news stations in the northeast are all a buzz regarding the potential for severe weather.  They have repeatedly used the word derecho.  So, I thought I’d check A Dictionary of Civil, Water Resources & Environmental Engineering to learn what a derecho is?

DERECHO – Widespread and usually fast-moving windstorm associated with convection.

So now you know!  Some might think this post a bit off topic regarding the PE Civil exam, but it really isn’t.  The point is to demonstrate that you may come across a word or two you may not be familiar with on the exam and this is where A Dictionary of Civil, Water Resources & Environmental Engineering will come in handy.

When will I receive my FE, PE or PS exam results?

Here’s a typical question we get, when will I receive my exam results?  The answer is the results for the Spring 2013 exam are coming out NOW as NCEES have released the results to the State Boards!

We have had successful students from Atlanta, Ohio, etc. write us to say both that they “PASSED” and A Dictionary of Civil, Water Resources & Environmental Engineering absolutely helped on the exam.  Congratulations to everyone that passed the exam and please keep emailing us your success stories!
